In high school, I was thinking that I wanted to get into something in health care. So I spent a little time with my physician, spent a little time with my orthodontist, and out of that decided that orthodontics was probably where I wanted to go. In order to do that, we went to college, went on to dental school, and discovered that if I go on to orthodontics, I stopped doing most of what I learned in dental school.
I wasn’t ready to do that, so after a residency in general practice, I started practice and said if I get bored, I will go on to orthodontics, and after 30 plus years, I haven’t gotten bored. The most rewarding part of dentistry for me is getting to work with people. Each one comes with their own needs, their own desires, and the fun is getting to help each person.
General dentistry, you know, different from some of the specialties, is nice is that you do get to build relationships over time. So I’ve been here a little over 20 years, I’ve been in the area for a little over 30, and so I’ve got relationships with patients, you know, going back through that time, including some that have been with me for 30 years. And so you watch, you know, folks grow up, grow older, get married, have kids of their own.
That’s always fun when you get to see the kids of the kids that you knew growing up.
