We are so pleased with Dr. Balling and his staff. My elderly mom developed an abscess and needed to be seen right away. Jojo and Cathy were so caring and sympathetic, and fit my mom in to be seen the same day I called. Mom needs a wheelchair and Dr. Balling and his hygienist were very considerate of that and accommodating. I was so worried and stressed about my mom’s condition but Dr. Balling was kind, compassionate and has a wonderful bedside manner and sense of humor that brought levity to the situation and put me at ease right away. Mom was very comfortable with the doctor and the hygienist ( wish I had gotten her name!). Everyone is pleasant, professional and so caring at this practice. I was very impressed! I feel very grateful to have found a wonderful dental practice.
National Dentists Day is a great reminder that choosing a dentist is a personal decision that should feel comfortable and well informed. Dental care works best when you feel understood, respected, and confident in the recommendations you receive. When communication is clear and expectations are aligned, finding the right dentist becomes a reassuring step rather than an overwhelming one.
Start With Credentials and Experience
A dentist’s education and professional background provide an important foundation for trust. Active licensure, continuing education, and involvement in professional organizations reflect a commitment to ethical standards and modern dentistry. Dentists who stay current with advancements are better prepared to offer care that reflects today’s best practices.
Experience also matters. Providers with a solid clinical history often bring efficiency and confidence to appointments, helping visits feel organized and calm instead of rushed.
How Does Technology Support Better Care?
Modern dental technology plays a meaningful role in accuracy, efficiency, and understanding. While patients may not always notice the equipment itself, they often experience clearer explanations and smoother visits.
Many practices use technology to:
- Capture detailed digital images for accurate evaluations
- Help visualize oral health conditions and treatment options
- Streamline scheduling and reduce unnecessary wait times
When technology is used to educate rather than overwhelm, patients feel more informed and comfortable with care decisions.
Pay Attention to the Office Environment
The atmosphere of a dental office can strongly influence how comfortable visits feel. A welcoming front desk, organized treatment areas, and respectful communication help set a positive tone from the moment you arrive.
Notice how questions are handled. Are explanations clear and unhurried? Does the team take time to listen? A thoughtful environment often reflects a practice that values patient comfort as much as clinical outcomes.
Is the Care Approach Patient-Centered?
Patient-centered dentistry focuses on listening, transparency, and collaboration. The right dentist explains options clearly, respects comfort levels, and avoids pressure when discussing treatment plans.
Care should feel collaborative rather than transactional. When patients feel heard and informed, they’re more likely to stay consistent with preventive care and follow recommendations with confidence.
Choose With Confidence
